Reading a small-stone grade
Accent diamonds are graded in ranges rather than as single stones, so a supplier's “I1” covers a band rather than one point on the GIA scale. That is normal and it is not a dodge — at these carat weights a single-stone grade would cost more than the stone. What matters at this size is the cut: a well-cut quarter carat outperforms a poorly cut half.
